ADC Declares 3-Day Mourning for Late President Buhari, Zamfara Chapter Joins in Tribute.
Gusau, Nigeria – July 15, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared a three-day mourning period in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away recently. The decision was announced following a directive from the party’s National Headquarters.
In response to the directive, the Zamfara State Chapter of the ADC has aligned with the national leadership in observing the period of mourning. In a statement signed by the State Chairman, Kabiru Garba Gusau, the party expressed deep sorrow over the death of the former president, describing it as a “national loss of monumental significance.”
According to the statement, all ADC flags in the state will be flown at half-mast, and all political activities, meetings, and engagements are to be suspended during the mourning period.
“President Muhammadu Buhari was a prominent figure in Nigeria’s political journey, having served both as a military leader and a democratically elected president. His contributions to the country, regardless of political affiliation, are part of our national story,” the statement read.
Gusau added that members of the ADC in Zamfara are encouraged to dedicate time for prayers and reflection, not just for the late president, but also for the peace and unity of the nation.
The party extended its condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Nigerians at large.
“We pray for Allah’s mercy upon his soul and ask for strength for his family and supporters during this difficult time,” Gusau said.
The announcement by the ADC adds to the growing number of tributes pouring in from across the political spectrum in honor of the former president, who ruled Nigeria between 1983–1985 as a military head of state and again from 2015–2023 as an elected civilian leader.
The three-day mourning period is expected to run from Tuesday 15 to 18 July, during which ADC activities nationwide will remain on hold.
