HESCO Calls for Stronger Citizen–Security Agency Collaboration in Zamfara

Gusau, Zamfara State — April 2026

The Health Standard Concern Organization (HESCO) has called on residents of Zamfara State to strengthen collaboration with official security agencies in order to effectively tackle the persistent security challenges facing the state.

In a statement released on Sunday, HESCO emphasized that while security agencies continue to make efforts to restore peace, lasting stability can only be achieved through active participation and cooperation from citizens.

The organization highlighted the critical role of intelligence sharing, noting that residents are often the first to observe suspicious movements within their communities. According to HESCO, timely and accurate information provided to security operatives can significantly help in preventing criminal activities before they escalate.

HESCO also stressed the importance of building trust between citizens and security agencies, stating that mutual understanding enhances rapid response and improves the overall effectiveness of security operations.

“Protecting lives and property is a shared responsibility. When citizens remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, they contribute immensely to reducing crime and ensuring community safety,” the statement read.

The group further encouraged the strengthening of community policing efforts, describing it as a vital approach to identifying and addressing threats at the grassroots level.

As part of its recommendations, HESCO urged citizens to promptly report suspicious activities to relevant authorities and to avoid taking the law into their own hands. It also called on community groups to engage in awareness campaigns, while urging security agencies to deepen their engagement with local communities.

Traditional and religious leaders were also identified as key stakeholders in promoting peace and spreading security awareness messages across the state.

HESCO concluded by reiterating that addressing insecurity in Zamfara is not the responsibility of the government alone but requires collective action from all stakeholders.

The organization appealed to residents to remain proactive and committed to building a safer and more secure Zamfara State.
