HESCO Calls for Greater Investment in Girls’ Rights on International Day of the Girl Child.
Gusau, Zamfara State – October 11, 2025:
The Health Standard Concern Organization (HESCO) has joined the global community to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, emphasizing the need for increased investment in the rights, education, and well-being of girls across Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Abdullahi Lawali, HESCO highlighted that this year’s theme, “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being,” underscores the importance of collective efforts to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to reach her full potential through education, healthcare, safety, and empowerment.
Lawali noted that despite global progress, many girls in Zamfara State and other parts of the country still face barriers such as early marriage, gender-based violence, limited access to quality education, and poor health services. He described these challenges as major threats to both individual growth and national development.
“Empowering girls is not just a matter of justice but also a pathway to sustainable development. When we invest in girls, we invest in stronger families, healthier communities, and a more equitable society,” he stated.
HESCO called on government agencies, civil society organizations, parents, community leaders, and international partners to intensify efforts in promoting girls’ rights and protection. The organization urged stakeholders to:
Strengthen laws and programs that protect and promote girls’ rights; Invest in girl-child education and skills development; Provide safe spaces for girls to express themselves and develop leadership skills; and Support initiatives aimed at ending harmful traditional practices and gender-based violence.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting inclusive education, health equity, and gender justice, HESCO pledged to continue advocating for policies and interventions that ensure no girl is left behind.
“Together, we can build a future where every girl is safe, educated, and empowered to contribute meaningfully to her community and to the nation,” the statement added.
